Danas je 19. septembar – dan slobodnog softvera. Ovaj dan se obeležava od 2004. godine, a od 2006. godine dogovoreno je da Dan slobodnog softvera bude svaka treća subota u septembru. U prošlogodišnjoj akciji učestvovalo je više od 500 timova iz 90 različitih zemalja. Interaktivnu mapu ovogdišnjih učesnika možete da pogledate na zvaničnom sajtu.
Dan slobodnog softvera bio je i povod za predavanje koje je organizovalo astronomsko društvo Alfa, iz Niša. Tema predavanja bio je značaj slobodnog softvera i primena u astronomiji. Predavanje je održano u velikoj sali Prirodno-matematičkog fakulteta a prisustvovalo je tridesetak ljudi. Na broj prisutnih verovatno je uticala jaka konkurencija na TV programu tog dana – dve utakmice, reprezentacija u košarci i Partizan u fudbalu. Ipak, “konkurencija” nije mnogo smetala. Vaše radove možete da nastavite da šaljete do nedelje, 3. maja. 2009. u ponoć.
Još jedna lepa vest za učesnike – Kreativni centar, partner u obeleležavanju Međunarodne godine astronomije u Srbiji, obezbedio je nagrade za najbolje radove. Nagrade će biti dodeljene za dva najbolja rada usvakoj od sledećih kategorija:
- Astronomija (naučno-popularni tekstovi)

Astronomsko drustvo ALFA 16. avgusta organizuje teleskopsko posmatranje delimicnog pomracenja Meseca.
Ako bude lepo vreme teleskopi ce biti postavljeni u Tvrdjavi, na platou kod Rimskih stecaka od 21h. Pomracenje pocinje u 21:36h a zavrsava u 00:44h, maksimum ce biti u 23:10h.
Pozivaju se svi ljubitelji astronomije da prisustvuju ovom dogadjaju.

Krajem oktobra iz štampe je izašla još jedna knjiga posvećena astrofizici. To je ”Fizika Sunca” u izdanju niške ”Prosvete” i Prirodno-matematičkog fakulteta iz Niša. Njen autor je prof. dr Dragan Gajić, koji na Odseku za fiziku pomenutog fakulteta predaje Osnove astrofizike.
Ovo je jedan od retkih udžbenika naših autora posvećen korpusu tzv. ”posebnih”, užih, oblasti astrofizike. Knjiga je namenjena studentima fizike, ali je, s obzirom na stil kojim je napisana, pristupačna i onim ”zaljubljenicima” astrofizike koji ne poseduju formalno obrazovanje iz oblasti fizike, astronomije ili matematike. Naime, tekst knjige nije opterećen formulama i jednačinama, koje bi stručnjacima omogućile, kako to autor sam navodi, mnogo jasnije sagledavanje onoga ”što je pisac rečima hteo da kaže”. Njegova ideja bila je ”da širi krug čitalaca, koji nisu specijalisti u oblasti astrofizike, ne odbacuje knjigu na ”prvi” pogled, zaplašen ”matematičko-fizičkim aparatom”, koji bi, logično, u njoj trebalo da bude prisutan.
