Гимназија „Светозар Марковић“ је 9. марта 2009. године поводом 55 година постојања организовала Фестивал „Наук није баук“ на коме је било представљено 20 различитих тема и на коме су учествовали ученици и професори наше Гимназије. Фестивал је током једног дана посетило преко 3000 људи из целе Србије. Показало се да је фестивал имао пуно позитивног утицаја на повећање заинтересованости младих на југу Србије за науку и научна истраживања. Сматрамо да је у Нишу потребно сваке године правити овакву манифестацију која би популарисала науку. U organizaciji Gradske opštine Pantelej u Nišu je u petak, 9. oktobra u 13 časova otvorena je izložba radova učenika osnovnih škola. Tema izložbe je svemir viđen očima dece. Izložba je otvorena u Domu za decu i omladinu “Duško Radović”, Niš.
Idejni tvorac izložbe je Aleksandar Stojanović – Aca Mlazni, jedan od pionira raketnog modelarstva u Srbiji. Na izložbi je izloženo oko 70 najboljih radova, sa različitom temom i slikani različitim tehnikama. Zajedničko za sve radove bio je svemir, aeronautika i astronomija. Od 2003. godine. internetom kruži e-mail u kome se tvrdi da će Mars 27. avgusta biti veliki kao pun Mesec. Već petu godinu za redom, sa početkom leta, pojavljuje se i taj e-mail. Ovo je samo jedan od mnogih “hoax” e-mailova koji kruže Internetom, ali za razliku od ostalih pojavljuje se periodično i ima malo osnove u stvarnosti – jednom je 27. avgusta Mars stvarno bio najbliži Zemlji, ali nikada nije bio niti će biti veliki kao pun Mesec.
Tog 27. avgusta 2003. godine Mars je bio najblizi Zemlji u poslednjih 59600 godina. Naravno, što je bliži Mars (i ostale planete) su sjajnije, tako da je to bio dan kada je Mars delovao najsjajnije. Bili su to zanimljivi dani za astronome amatere koji su zeleli da kroz svoje teleskope vise Mars. Tada je krenula prica. Nekima je izgleda bilo dosadno pa su satsvaili i poceli da salju e-mail u kome obavestavaju ljude da ce Mars biti sjajan kao pun Mesec. Naravno od toga nije bilo nista i mnogi su gledali nebo u potrazi za novim mesecom, ali ga nisu pronasli.
